Steam Train trip to Chester

A friend kindly gave his ticket for a trip to Chester by steam train hauled by "Oliver Cromwell" as he was unable to travel.

An interesting day – much delayed and very frustrating!  The train didn’t appear Filton Abbey Wood and 50 of us were transported to Parkway – then 10 minutes later bussed back to Abbey Wood to catch a small train to Newport as in our absence the steam train had arrived at Abbey Wood to find no-one there! They left without us.   At Newport we were told to catch the next train to Cwnbran – we overtook the steam who was taking on water at Magor.  Eventually stepped on the train there!

On the return trip, there was a signalling dispute at Shrewsbury – 45 minutes delay then the Diesel who was on the tale end of the train, went to the front and pulled the Oliver Cromwall – and all the carriages back to Abbey Wood, two hours late!!!  Just a few pics taken on the day -
