Constable Country

Returned yesterday from a holiday to 'Constable Country' with my PROBUS Group.  This area of Suffolk, the 12 square miles around East Bergholt, is known as the area where John Constable was born, lived much of his life, and painted the local scenes.    My picture is well known in his paintings as Willy Lott's Cottage.

We also visited Lavenham, one of the best preserved medieval villages with its many colourful half-timbered houses

Another place we visited was Aldeburgh on the coast, a town where Benjamin Britten lived and composed much of his music.  This sculpture on the beach is in his memory and called "the Scallop"          It was a very long way from where the coach dropped us in the town, but I was keen to get some pictures and walked 20 minutes to get there and 20 minutes back!  - very tired for the rest of the afternoon!!

  1. Another interesting set of photos! I especially like the second photo, the curving street, with houses so different from what we can see here, in Portugal. The sculpture is also quite interesting, it relates to a shell but also to wings....
